Students’ Savings Bring Festive Cheer to Government School as Asansol North Point Extends a Helping Hand
In a heartwarming example of compassion and educational partnership, Asansol North Point School has reached out to students and families of Jamuria Namopara Primary School ahead of Durga Puja. The initiative, supported by students’ year-long savings and financial contributions from teachers, highlighted how schools from the private and government sectors can work together to promote social responsibility and inclusive education. Led by eminent educationist and social worker Sachindranath Roy and Mita Roy, Principal of Asansol North Point School, the initiative brought members of the school community together to share the joy of the festive season. Principal chanda North Point Rajib Sir, the Vice-Principal sir and other teachers also played an important role in organising the programme. Held at Jamuria Namopara Primary School, the programme saw educational materials and sweets distributed among more than 100 students. New sarees were also presented to 150 mothers and grandmothers. The event began with floral tributes to the bust of Rabindranath Tagore and the lighting of a ceremonial lamp, setting a warm and festive tone for the occasion. Deep Narayan Nayak, Head Teacher of Jamuria Namopara Primary School, attended the programme along with assistant teachers Shubhadip Sarkar and Balaram De, and assistant teacher Madhabi Mistry. More than 200 family members, including mothers, grandmothers, fathers and grandfathers, were present. Around 29 students from Asansol North Point School participated alongside their teachers and representatives.
A Partnership Beyond School Boundaries
The initiative carried a message that goes beyond festive charity. It demonstrated how a private school and a government primary school can come together with a shared commitment to children's wellbeing, dignity and holistic development.
What made the initiative particularly meaningful was the participation of students who chose to contribute their own savings to support children at Jamuria Namopara Primary School. The gesture offered a practical lesson in empathy, generosity and civic responsibility, showing that education is as much about developing character as it is about academic achievement.
Speaking about the initiative, Deep Narayan Nayak, Head Teacher of Jamuria Namopara Primary School, said, “This initiative has brought immense happiness to our students and their families. The students’ savings, the teachers’ contributions and the sincere efforts of Asansol North Point School have set a wonderful example of humanity and mutual support. Such initiatives are important for nurturing human values alongside academic learning.”
Sachindranath Roy, educationist, social worker and head of Asansol North Point School, said, “We want our students not only to perform well academically but also to grow into good human beings. By using their own savings to help others, they learn empathy and social responsibility. When government and private schools work together, they can bring meaningful positive change to education and society.”
An Adivasi mother from the Jamuria Namopara Primary School community expressed her gratitude, saying, “We are very happy that our children received educational materials and sweets, and that we received new sarees before Durga Puja. We sincerely thank everyone who thought of our families and came forward to help us.”
The collaboration between Asansol North Point School and Jamuria Namopara Primary School reinforces an important principle: meaningful education extends beyond classrooms and institutional boundaries. When government and private schools work together, they can strengthen community relationships, encourage social inclusion and inspire children to become compassionate and responsible citizens.
As Durga Puja approaches, this joint initiative stands as a reminder that the true spirit of education lies not only in what children learn from books, but also in how they learn to care for others. The partnership between the two schools has turned a festive celebration into a meaningful expression of solidarity, shared responsibility and the power of collective action.
