Steel Minister assures solution to DSP & ASP quarter issue, Lakshman Ghorui informed after meeting

Many retired workers of Durgapur Steel Plant and Durgapur Alloy Steel plant are living in plant accommodation in Durgapur Steel City. But they are facing problems due to the new leasing and licensing rules of the Steel Authority. Due to the new draft and strict rules brought in the licensing policy, extreme uncertainty and legal complications have been created in retaining the quarters or getting a new license. The residents have been protesting against this for the last few years. But despite repeatedly bringing the matter to the attention of the Steel authorities, no solution has been found in this way.

In this context, Durgapur West MLA Lakshman Chandra Ghorui has taken the initiative to resolve the problem of accommodation of retired steel plant workers. He went to Delhi to discuss this issue and met Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Steel, Shri Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma raising the issue and getting assurance of a solution.

Incidentally, the workers who have been running the steel plant with their blood and labour are now at the end of their lives and are deprived of a little peace and security. There has been speculation about this issue in the industrial city for a long time. In this situation, there has been a change of power in the state recently. The BJP government has come to power. Before coming to power, the BJP had assured that if there is a single government at the center and in the state, the double engine government will be able to solve various problems quickly and also take the state forward on the path of development quickly. The state government has already started taking steps in this regard for development.

The impact of that step has also reached the industrial area of ??Durgapur. The MLA said that the Minister listened to all the problems very carefully and assured to solve the problems. However, the MLA also informed the Minister about the problems related to the contract of not only steel housing, but also Durgapur Steel Plant and Durgapur Alloy Steel Plant.  And the MLA claims that the Minister has considered that problem and has given a solution.

Incidentally, earlier, contractors were appointed through tenders for small works in DSP and ASP  township area. As a result, many contractors in the industrial area used to get work. But recently, that rule has been changed. Instead of small tenders, all the works are being tendered together and given to a large contractor company. As a result, small businesses in the industrial area are being hit.

On the other hand, this initiative of the Durgapur West MLA Lakshman Chandra Ghorui has been welcomed by people from all walks of life in the city. Especially the elderly residents of the city who have been harassed over township housing have breathed a sigh of relief. They hope that this time there will be a good decision surely . They will be able to spend the last days of their lives at least a little peacefully.
