The BJP faces highly embarrassing situation as it's grassroot leaders, in several places are identified and caught possessing pairs of Electoral Photo Identity Cards illegally and their names are detected in more than one Electoral Rolls, unauthorizedly.
The BJP, it's top leaders, since before the day the Special Intensive Revision was rolled out in Bengal have hinted that the ruling Trinamul Congress has harboured 'foreigners' and protecting it's 'vote bank' intruders, especially to those who possess illegally procured multiple EPICs and the SIR is aimed to eradicate them.
A person has his name enrolled in two places in the Electoral Roll and he posseses two EPICs, that has come under scanner during the Special Intensive Revision in Kalna, East Burdwan today.
Gopal Barui - a Panchayat member from the BJP with the Satgachhia Panchayat is a resident of Swaspur village. He is having two EPICs. In one EPIC, his father's name is Anil Barui and in the other, Dulal Barui is named as his father. While Anil was his biological father, Dulal was his father's elder brother.
Gopal - an elected Panchayat member said today: "It's a mistake and one of my cards will be scrapped during SIR, I'm sure." The Trinamul Congress leader and Pradhan of Satgachhia Panchayat, Harekrishna Mondal today complained about the 'offence' to the SDM, Kalna. He said: "This BJP has made hue and cry for fake entries in the Electoral Rolls, but it's their leaders those are caught having two EPICs here and there across East Burdwan.
The SDM, Kalna, Ahimsa Jain said that she's asked the Block administration of Kalna - 2 to inquire into the matter.
One Booth Level Assistant of the BJP, Gouranga Haldar of Panchloki village of Purbasthali of Kalna, incidentally was identified having two EPICs and his name enrolled in two places of the Electoral Roll (Serial numbers - 414 & 680) during the SIR. Gouranga had pleaded 'innocent' for this 'wrongful' entry.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav ahead of Assembly Elections, on 12 August had alleged that the Election Commission of India is working with the Bharatiya Janata Party to manipulate the voter list in Bihar by issuing two Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers to its leaders and workers.
Yadav brought forward that Muzzafarpur's mayor, a BJP leader named Nirmala Devi, was having two EPIC IDs in the same Assembly Constituency. "In that too, they are different. Not only this, but Nirmala Devi has two brother-in-laws, they also have two EPIC numbers," he claimed.
