SIR preparation survey in four districts of West Bengal

The National Election Commission is focusing on four districts for the special intensive revision of the voter list (SIR). A two-day state tour by commission representatives will begin on Wednesday, October 8. The commission officials have scheduled to inspect the preparations of some districts on the spot.
 
On October 8 and 9, in addition to meetings with all district administrations, it has been decided to separately inspect the preparations in Purba Medinipur, Bankura, Jhargram, and North 24 Parganas. 
 
Heavy rainfall and massive landslides across different district of North Bengal in West Bengal causing widespread devastation. Due to the deteriorating situation in North Bengal, the district magistrate and other election officials there have been exempted from the October 8 meeting. This is because they are currently busy with relief and rehabilitation work. For now, there is a special emphasis on North 24 Parganas, which borders Bangladesh. The commission will hold a separate meeting for North Bengal at the end of this month.
ADM-Election, OC-Election, ERO, AERO, supervisors, and booth-level officers have been asked to be present. In the afternoon, a meeting will be held with the District Magistrate, ADM-Election, OC-Election, all EROs, and system managers at the District Magistrate's office in Barasat.
 
The significance of the meetings in the district is different in terms of the presence of fake and ineligible names in the voter list and the process of the upcoming SIR. Incidentally, an investigation into allegations of fraudulent interference in the voter list has already been conducted in different constituency. A report on this was also sent to the Election Sadan in Delhi. Similarly, such allegations were investigated in one constituency each in South 24 Parganas and Purba Medinipur, and four officials were suspended. Departmental investigations are underway. As a result, it is believed that the tone of the upcoming SIR will be set in the meeting.The officials of Purba Medinipur, Bankura, and Jhargram districts will have a meeting at the Midnapore Collectorate. The commission representatives will have a separate meeting with the officials of these districts. The commission officials will also hold a meeting with the district coordinators, system managers and officials of the commission to review the preparations. This time, the commission is also focusing on the system managers. The list of voters is being updated and the commission officials want to ensure that no one can interfere in this process, so a separate meeting will be held.
