Shah is Mir Zafar: Mamata rebuke Centre on SIR
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee mocked at Home Minister Amit Shah and further termed him as the 'acting Prime Minister' of India.
Banerjee expressed concern after the Election Commission stressed to expedite the Special Intensive Review (SIR) amidst the disastrous calamities. She said: "How's this possible now? Uncountable people have lost their papers, documents required for this SIR."
The CM also cautioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi against his most trusted lieutenant, home minister Amit Shah.
“This is all Amit Shah’s game. He behaves as if he is the acting prime minister of the country. The PM also knows everything. I am sorry to say so. We can only request Modi to be cautious. Don’t trust Amit Shah so much." She further added: "Ek din wo aap ka Mir Zafar ban jaayega (One day he will be your Mir Zafar),” Mamata said at the Kolkata airport on her return to the state capital after a three-day tour of flood-hit North Bengal districts.
Mamata’s ire at the union Home minister was over the push for the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls across Bengal to detect the infiltrators.
The state Assembly polls are scheduled for the summer of 2026.
