Run for Glory: DAV Model School, ‘Golden Mile Challenge’

DAV Model School, Durgapur marked a momentous milestone in its journey of educational excellence with the successful hosting of the ‘Golden Mile Challenge’ on November 9, 2025, as part of its Golden Jubilee celebrations. The event began with the welcoming of the guests, chanting of the Gayatri Mantra and DAV Gaan. The Chief Guest, Ms. Soma Biswas—Ex-Olympian and Arjuna Awardee—motivated the participants with her inspiring presence. She was joined by Guests of Honour, Mr. Abhishek Gupta, IPS, DCP (East Zone -1), Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate, Durgapur and Colonel Hitarth Sarvaiya, CO 10 Bengal Battalion, whose addresses emphasized discipline, commitment, and national pride.

The spectacular marathon flagged off at 7:30 A.M. from the school premises, featuring a spirited 5-kilometre run that began and concluded on campus. The occasion witnessed enthusiastic participation of students from various schools in Durgapur and DAV Model/Public Schools of the West Bengal Zone, along with parents and alumni.The event was further graced by the presence of delegations from other DAV institutions and Heads of institutions from prominent local schools . Their presence surcharged the entire event with the collaborative and celebratory spirit.

A total of 188 participants embraced the challenge, comprising 50 Boys, 47 Girls, 75 Parents, and 16 Alumni. Participants competed in distinct categories—students (boys and girls), parents, and alumni—with cash awards to the top performers. The first prize for students was ?7000, followed by ?5000 for second place, ?3000 for third, ?2000 for fourth, and ?1000 for fifth. Parents and alumni received ?4000, ?3000, and ?2000 for first, second, and third places respectively.

The competitive spirit of the Golden Mile Challenge resulted in outstanding performances across all categories. In the Students (Boys) category, the top five positions were secured by Deep Singh (Dhandabag Hindi High School, 1st), Shubham Kumar (Nepalipara Hindi High School, 2nd), Santanu Kumar Mahato (Benachity Bharatiya Hindi High School, 3rd), Pritam Mahato (Benachity Bharatiya Hindi High School, 4th), and Biswadeep Ghosh (DAV Public School HCL Rupnarainpur, 5th). Similarly, in the Students (Girls) category, the honours went to Shreyashi Dutta (Raniganj Lions JDM Chanani DAV Public School, 1st), Diya Tewari (Dhandabag Hindi High School, 2nd), Tanima Mondal (DAV Public School DVC MTPS, Bankura, 3rd), Durba Nandi (DAV Public School DVC MTPS , Bankura, 4th), and Roshni Bhagat (DAV Public School, Kanyapur, Asansol,5th). For the parents, the top three positions in the Parents category were secured by Ranjit Saha (1st), Soumen Pal (2nd), and Sourav Laha (3rd), while the Alumni category winners were Sarbojit Roy Choudhury (1st), Subhabrata Chowdhury (2nd), and Utkarsh Dubey (3rd). Every participant was honoured with a certificate of participation, celebrating their spirit and contribution to the event.

In her keynote address, Principal cum Regional Officer, Ms. Papiya Mukherjee reflected on the school’s 50-year legacy, stating, “The Golden Mile Challenge is a tribute to every step taken by our students, educators, and stakeholders in pursuit of knowledge, character, and community. As we celebrate this Golden Jubilee, we reaffirm our commitment to nurturing excellence with ethics.” The event concluded with the vote of thanks and national anthem.

The indelible event reflected a renewed sense of pride and unity, setting the tone for a year-long celebration of DAV Model School’s enduring legacy.
