RG Kar shadow in Burdwan: Ward Boy outrage modesty of patient's daughter, arrested
The much debated RG Kar Hospital controversy was yet to precipitate, but yet another government hospital, meanwhile, has landed in a fresh controversy after one of its staff members was arrested on charges of outrage of modesty of a patient's married daughter last midnight.
The accused staff Biswajit Dey, a ward boy of the Burdwan Medical College & Hospital, was intercepted by the Burdwan Women Police Station officials early this morning from his residence. The arrest has triggered off dissension by and large across the South Bengal districts today.
A middle-aged tribal lady was admitted to the chest ward of the Burdwan Medical College & Hospital. Her married daughter was staying with her on Saturday, as she was alone in the ward.
On Sunday midnight, Biswajit, the ward boy, according to a complaint registered by a female patient, had molested her married daughter and also had slapped her when she vehemently tried to get rid of her clutches.
She alleged: "He switched off the lights and came close to me and hugged me from the back side. When I screamed, he started to slap me harshly and started pulling my sari. I somehow managed to escape and sought assistance from others." Biswajit had escaped the scene by the time.
The police, based on the complaint has slapped charges of using criminal force against woman, demands for sexual favour, intending to disrobe a woman, causing insult a woman's modesty [under Sections 74, 75, 76 (2), 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita].
