Rapist absconder nephew of MLA arrested after 5 years
BJP's absconder Youth Morcha leader and the nephew of the party's MLA from Durgapur finally was arrested by the police early this morning from his native village early this morning.
Sahadeb Ghorui -, the youth was accused of rape on charges of rape of the minor daughter of a BJP cadre from the same village in 2020.
Soon after the complaint was registered, Sahadeb Ghorui - the accused fled Bengal and the sources said that he was absconding in various hideouts in Jharkhand, Bihar, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh since May, 2020. He was arrested from his native Bamnabera village in Kanksa Police Station area in theeastern . He had come out of his house for morning walk. "A police team caught him in the wee hours from his locality."
The complaint of rape was registered against him at the Kanksa PS on 5 May 2020.
In his complaint, the victim had alleged that Sahadeb had taken her to an amusement park at City Centre in Durgapur town, promising her a job there. She alleged: "Sahadeb had pushed me inside a room of a resort there at the park and raped by force repeatedly and thrashed me when I tried to resis thim."
The minor had fallen sick. After her rescue, she described everything to her parents.
A CID investigation also failed to trace any clues on Sahadeb's whereabouts after he disappeared. He returned to his native Bamnabera village in Kanksa two days back, and the police received a tip off about this last evening.
Sahadeb's arrest has kicked off political firestorm as he is the nephew of Lakshman Ghorui - the MLA, Durgapur (Paschim).
The ruling Trinamul Congress, after Sahadeb's arrest, has blamed BJP for helping the rape accused to escape and stay harboured in safe hideouts for a period of over five years. Narendranath Chakraborty, TMC district president of West Burdwan, said: "These people commit crimes like this, and their influential uncles manage escape doors for them."
Lakshman Ghorui, MLA, and a BJP state committee member today distanced from his nephew and said: "It's not at all a political matter and was never linked with my political career. In no way, my family members are linked to my politics, too, " He added: "The TMC is trying to play a dirty politics out of one's personal matter. I will wait for justice."
Ghorui, incidentally, was the key person behind organising six days dharna at City Centre administrative zone demanding arrest of the accused of the much debated gang rape of a second year medical student here. The police arrested six youths including the boyfriend of the victim girl those have been ordered Jail Custody till 31 October.
Sahadeb, on the way for his production at the Pocso Court in Durgapur, claimed: "I'm a victim of politics. A false charge was framed against me to malign my uncle." The Pocso Court today ordered Jail Custody for Sahadeb till 11 November.
