Over 40,000 EVMs arrive in state ahead of upcoming Municipal elections

The State Election Commission has made major progress in the preparations for the upcoming primary elections. The State Commission has received a large number of electronic voting machines (EVMs) required for the elections from the National Election Commission. With this initiative of the administration, the preparations for the elections have moved forward a step even before the election schedule is announced, according to the concerned quarters.

According to the commission sources, 21,184 ballot units and 19,564 control units have already arrived in the state. With a total of more than 40,000 EVM units arriving in the state, one of the most important and initial phases of the election preparations has been completed. A senior Election Commission official said that ensuring the availability of EVMs is of utmost importance for the conduct of the elections. For that purpose, the process of procuring these machines has been completed quickly in coordination with the National Election Commission.

Every EVM unit arriving in the state will be kept safely within a specific security enclosure. Step-by-step testing will be conducted as per the protocol prescribed by the Election Commission to check if there is any technical or technical defect in the machine. Once the testing process is completed, the EVMs will be distributed to the booths of different districts and as per the requirement. At the same time, special training for polling staff on EVM operation will also be started.

Although the date of the preliminary polls has not been announced yet, the State Election Commission is not looking to leave any loopholes to ensure that the elections are completely smooth, free and transparent. The main goal of the commission is to complete all administrative preparations in advance.
