Asansol Division of Eastern Railway continues to accord high priority to passenger comfort convenience and safety by strengthening station infrastructure and providing modern passenger amenities. Escalators installed at major stations across the Division have significantly eased passenger movement particularly benefiting senior citizens Divyangjan women passengers and those carrying luggage especially during peak hours and festive rush.
Escalators operational at various important stations over Asansol Division are facilitating smooth and hassle free movement of passengers between platforms and station areas. These facilities form an important part of the Division’s ongoing efforts to create a safe accessible and passenger friendly station environment.
However it has been observed that in several instances the emergency stop button of escalators is being pressed without any genuine emergency. Such unnecessary actions disrupt normal escalator operations and cause inconvenience to a large number of passengers.
In the event that the escalator emergency stop button is pressed unnecessarily the escalator comes to an immediate halt and cannot be restarted by pressing the emergency button again. The escalator does not start automatically and remains out of service until it is manually reset from the escalator control panel by authorised electrical maintenance staff. During this period the escalator remains non operational causing inconvenience to passengers especially senior citizens persons with disabilities and those carrying luggage.
Unwarranted stoppage of escalators may also lead to sudden jerks or abrupt halts posing safety risks to users and causing undue stress on critical components such as braking systems thereby affecting the overall reliability of the equipment.
Passengers are advised that the emergency stop button is strictly meant for real emergencies only such as a person losing balance an object getting trapped or any situation involving immediate danger. Passengers wearing loose garments like sarees dupattas shawls dhotis or long kurtas are requested to remain extra cautious while using escalators to prevent clothing from getting entangled in moving parts.
Asansol Division appeals to all passengers to act responsibly avoid misuse of safety features and adhere to the safety instructions displayed at escalator locations. Active cooperation from passengers will help ensure safe smooth and efficient movement within station premises for everyone.
