Medic's rape: Police fix boyfriend as rapist in charge sheet

The charge sheet filed by the police on the 20th day of the second year girl medical student has held her boyfriend as her rapist today.

The girl, during the Test Identification parade, however, had identified Firdous Sheikh - one of the five local youths from Bijra village as her rapist. She, since the day of the incident on 10 October, had consistently been denying to name Wasif Ali , her boyfriend, as a culprit. Wasif was arrested on 14 October, the day of reconstruction of the crime scene when the investigating officials found anomalies in his versions of the crime.

The police had recovered the victim girl's snatched cellphone from Firdouse's possession within two days of the crime, incidentally.

The Special Public Prosecutor engaged by the Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate was present at the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Durgapur today when the charge sheet was placed by the police. He said: "The investigations didn't find Wasif a clean guy. Rather, he tried to conceal the fact and destroy some evidence." He added: "Three of the accused have been slapped gang rape charges, and two were accused of robbery and snatching of the victim’s cellphone, cash and jewellery."

Tomorrow, the entire six accused will be taken to Durgapur Court for final production before the trial of the case begins. They are currently lodged in Jail Custody at the Durgapur Sub Correctional Home.
