Medic's Rape: 2 wish to record statements

Two of the six accused in the medical student's alleged gang rape case have desired to confess their 'involvement' and their legal counsel has moved a petition before the Special ACJM Judge.

Five youths from local Bijra village here were arrested on gang rape charges and the two of them Safikul Sheikh and Riazuddin Sheikh, were sent to Jail Custody after the petition under Section 183 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita was moved and their statements were recorded yesterday.

A second year medical student of IQ City Medical College here allegedly was gang raped on 10 October late evening after she accompanied her boyfriend Wasif Ali to a small forest patch about 1 km away from the college campus after 9 pm. The accused had snatched her cellphone and allegedly had demanded cash against the returning of the phone. The cellphone however was recovered from the possession of Firdos Sheikh - another accused in the case.

In their statement before the 3rd Judicial Magistrate, the rape victim had claimed that Riazuddin and Safikul had arrived the scene later and had called up the three who'd snatched her phone and together had demanded Rs 3,000 from her as a penalty for entering into the forest with her boyfriend.

Wasif - the boyfriend also was arrested after the victim girl had complained in her statement that he had molested her.

Partha Ghosh, - lawyer appearing for the accused said today: "We have also moved a petition before the Court seeking earliest Test Identification parade, which still was pending."

The accused are scheduled to be produced before the Court on Wednesday.
