Man use rolling car to kill wife in Burdwan
A speeding car carrying a couple rolled away desperately and plunged into a pond killing the wife.
The husband, though, secured to exit somehow but was arrested by the police on murder charge in Memari in East Burdwan on Saturday morning.
Although this appeared to be an accidental case of drowning death, the arrest however was made by the police within an hour of the recovery of the middle-aged woman's body that was fished out by the divers engaged by the Civil Defence department.
The woman's family members complained that it was a well planned conspired murder and Mofizul deliberately had driven the car to the pond purposely to kill Asmatara.
The couple Mofizul Sheikh and Asmatara Sheikh were from Hatbaska village in the Memari Police Station area and were married for 18 years. The couple has a son. Asmatara's family complained to the police that Mofizul was trying to eliminate Asmatara after he got involved with another woman in recent times. He also unleashed physical assaults to her multiple times whenever she used to protest about his illicit affair.
Mofizul had taken Asmatara to Burdwan town on Saturday morning. He claimed that Asmatara had been feeling weakness for the past few weeks. He told police that he had lost control of the speeding vehicle while crossing Ghosh Para area, and it plugged into the pond, which couldn't be averted. He claimed that he survived as he'd jumped into the water opening the gate, but Asmatara failed to do the same.
The police arrested him and began a probe. The officials, however, were yet to estimate how the man could survive from the deadly run of the vehicle, leaving his wife inside the locked car? Also, an officer said: "We haven't gathered primary stock of the man's extramarital affairs leading to the tragic 'murder' as has been charged by the deceased woman's family."
