The industrial city of Durgapur has decked itself out in the colors of joy and festivity in anticipation of Durga Puja 2026. A spectacular two-day festival has kicked off at Durgapur’s Gandhi Maidan, centered around the themes "Maa Comes Home" and "West Bengal Resonant with the Mother’s Blessings." Durgapur is one of the seven special locations across the state outside Kolkata chosen to host this event. The primary objective of the festival is to bring Bengal’s heritage, rich culture, and the timeless spirit of Durga Puja to the general public on a grand scale.
State Cabinet Minister Dr. Ajay Poddar, MLAs from various constituencies in around Paschim Bardhaman district, and senior district administration officials attended the grand inaugural ceremony of the festival on Sunday evening. The lighting of the ceremonial lamp in their presence created a unique, festive atmosphere at the Gandhi Maidan grounds.
Durga Puja is not merely a religious ritual, it is a confluence of Bengali emotion and culture. To share this joy with people from all walks of life, a variety of captivating cultural events and engaging programs have been planned for this two-day celebration.
Poushali Bandyopadhyay, a renowned artist of Bengali folk and modern music, will perform as one of the main attractions of this year's festival. All in all, this innovative event, held just ahead of the durga Puja, has immersed the residents of Durgapur in the early spirit of Sharadiya.
