Fake FCI job Couple booked in Burdwan
A fake job racket linked to Food Corporation of India has come into light after a couple was arrested by the police last night in Burdwan town.
The couple - Arian Mallik and Nabanita Mallik of Shankharipukur locality in Burdwan town, according to the police, collected 9 Lakhs in cash from one Shailender Kumar of Barabigha in Tejpur district of Bihar promising absorption of Kumar's nephew and brother in law with the Food Corporation of India.
Kumar complained to the police on the issue recently where he claimed that the Mallik couple had collected Rs 9.75 Lakh from him against two 'promised' appointments. The couple was introduced to him by another person in Tejpur at a family gathering two years ago.
Kumar said today: "They initially had claimed Rs 20 Lakh, but after negotiations, the volume was settled at Rs 10 Lakh, and I already paid them Rs 9.75 Lakh in three phases." He alleged: "The couple had accompanied us to the Kolkata regional headquarters of FCI after receiving the first cash instalment and had taken signatures of my candidates, which earned my trust further."
Kumar became frustrated when he realized that Malliks had been trying to avoid him in recent times. He said: "When they stopped receiving my calls, I could apprehend that I was cheated." He visited the Shankharipukur residence of the couple recently, where he allegedly was assaulted and intimidated.
On 3 September, Kumar lodged a complaint against the couple with the Burdwan PS. Charges of cheating, criminal intimidation and common intentions (under Sections - [318 (4), 351 (2), & 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita] have been slapped against the couple.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Burdwan ordered five days police remand for the couple today.
