Pursuant to the directions of the Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Government of India, given during his recent visit to Uttarpara (Hooghly district), the Office of the Additional Central Provident Fund Commissioner, Kolkata, today organised a meeting with Workers’ Unions associated with jute mills in West Bengal. The meeting was held at the Auditorium of the Indian Chamber of Commerce, Kolkata.
The meeting was attended by Shri Sheo Prasad Tiwari, Member, Central Board of Trustees, EPFO; Shri B. Lalzamang, Additional Central Provident Fund Commissioner, Kolkata; and Regional PF Commissioners-I/Officers-in-Charge of the Regional Offices at Barrackpore, Howrah and Park Street.

Representatives from a total of 25 workers’ unions participated in the deliberations.
During the interaction, the unions raised several Provident Fund–related issues, including non-payment of EPF contributions, evasion of membership, procedural difficulties in online claim settlement, and matters related to Joint Declarations. The officers present listened to the concerns, clarified procedural aspects and assured that the issues would be examined and addressed in accordance with rules and guidelines.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the Chair. Representatives of the workers’ unions expressed their satisfaction with the initiative and appreciated the platform provided for constructive dialogue between the EPFO and stakeholders from the jute industry.
