The Election Commission of India has now directly raised questions about the Unprecedented transfer statistics of West Bengal state government for transferring a total of 1,370 officers (IAS: 97, IPS: 146, WBCS: 1,080, WBPS: 47) between October 2025 and March 2026.  According to the Election Commission sources, before the announcement of the elections, the state government has deployed a total number of about  2,000 police personnel to provide security to 832 leaders directly associated with the Trinamool Congress and 144 more other supporters. The Bengal DG has been asked to submit a full report within 2-3 days on whether this large number of police forces has been used for political interests or not.

The Election Commission has now directly raised questions about the impartiality of the state administration ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. The state's Director General of Police (DG) Siddhanath Gupta has been ordered to conduct a strict 'professional review' into why a large number of police personnel have been deployed for the security of Trinamool leaders and workers.

According to the Election Commission, this massive reshuffle just before the elections has created instability at the administrative level. The Commission is already trying to rectify the situation by making some limited transfers. At the same time, it has been ordered to immediately withdraw the security of those who have criminal cases against them or who are getting security illegally.

Now question arise is the security cover of 2,000 police officers provided to 832 Trinamool leaders and 144 more other supporters is going to be removed soon by the order of the Election Commission ?
