Zohran Mamdani - a socialist Democrat with Indian origin has created one of the most astonishing electoral victories in American political history today, defeating the Republicans at a time when the party's posterboy Donald Trump has consistently been provoking the world to believe that 'only money power can dominate the globe.

Zohran is the 111th mayor of the New York City - who once was labeled as a terrorist within hours of victory by a local radio that triggered off political sensation. A hit Bollywood number ‘Dhoom Machale’ playing in the background as Mamdani ends his speech and the crowd erupts in applause, added sugar to the chocolate bowl today.

his victory speech, Mamdani said his victory helped topple a ‘political dynasty’ as he quoted the words of former Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru that ‘a moment comes, but rarely in history’.

Zohran Mamdani, a barely 34 years old and virtually unknown a year ago, won the mayoral race in the United States's largest city - considered as the most prolific financial capital of the world.

With 50.4 percent of the vote, he finished well ahead of Andrew Cuomo, the former Democratic Governor of the state who ran as an independent and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

"The future is in our hands. My friends, we have toppled a political dynasty," he declared to a crowd of supporters gathered at the Brooklyn Paramount. "We are breathing in the air of a city that has been reborn today." Mamdani made condemning the city's political elites and denouncing the 'billionaire who buys elections' a central theme of his campaign, which took on an anti-establishment tone.

His speech also sharply targeted Trump, who had warned of cutting off funds to New York if Mamdani wins. "Donald Trump, I have four words for you: turn the volume up,” he said, referencing Trump’s repeated threats and criticisms during the campaign. His attacks towards Trump were met with massive applause from the audience.

His victory came during a triumphant night for the Democrats, who won the Governors' seats in Virginia and New Jersey, as well as the vote on redistricting in California. Virtually everywhere, Republicans lost ground compared to Donald Trump's results just a year ago.

Meanwhile, in Virginia, Democrat Abigail Spanberger easily won the election for Governor, becoming the first woman elected to serve in that role. In New Jersey, Democrat Mikie Sherrill won the Governor's race.

Amid this 'blue wave,' Mamdani's win stood out for its particular struggle that was recorded during his march towards the victory stand as the Republicans- mostly Trump left no stone unturned to down him.
