Kolkata witnessed a spiritually enriching gathering yesterday at Nagendra Math on the occasion of the birth tithi of Jahnava Devi, who is revered as the consort of Nityananda Prabhu and a prominent figure in the Bhakti movement of Bengal inspired by Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
The event was organized by the Sanatan Dharma Pracharini Sabha in collaboration with Nagendra Mission at Nagendra Math, located on Ram Mohan Roy Road in the Garpar area of Kolkata. The programme included a special reading session followed by a discussion dedicated to her spiritual legacy.
The cultural segment featured musical performances by Raja Mukhopadhyay and Shekhar Mondal, a resident student of the Math. Dinabandhu Das also participated through musical presentation and active engagement in the discussions.
A lecture was delivered by Dr. Subhadip Bandyopadhyay, a descendant of Bhaduri Mahashay, who spoke on the contributions of Jahnava Devi and Bhaduri Mahashay in shaping the Vaishnava devotional tradition in Bengal.
Bhaduri Mahashay had regularly organized discussion sessions on Fridays and Sundays under the banner of the Sanatan Dharma Pracharini Sabha for the promotion and propagation of Sanatan Dharma. Continuing this tradition, the commemorative event was held yesterday.
Devotees and reverent followers gathered at Nagendra Math on this occasion, which also serves as the final place of spiritual practice of Bhaduri Mahashay.
The entire programme was meticulously planned and coordinated by Dr. Rabindranath Kar, Debashis Bose, and Sanjoy Bhattacharya, ensuring a meaningful and well-organized commemoration.
