Commemorating 164th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda through “Run for Swadeshi”

National Institute of Technology (NIT) Durgapur successfully organised “Run for Swadeshi” on 12 January 2026 to commemorate the 164th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The event was conducted under the aegis of the institute with active involvement of the National Service Scheme (NSS).

The run witnessed enthusiastic participation from NSS volunteers, students, staff and faculty members, reflecting collective commitment towards the ideals of Swami Vivekananda and the spirit of nationalism and self-reliance. The vibrant participation created an atmosphere of unity, discipline and social responsibility across the campus. The event was graced by Prof. Banik, Director (I/C), NIT Durgapur, along with Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Registrar, and several senior faculty members and Deans, whose presence encouraged and motivated the participants. To recognize excellence and enthusiasm, the top three winners from both boys and girls categories were awarded medals by the respected dignitaries. The award ceremony added prestige to the event and boosted the morale of the participants.

The entire programme was coordinated by Dr. S. K. Rai, PRO, who also delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, participants, organizers and volunteers for making the event a grand success.

The “Run for Swadeshi” at NIT Durgapur stood as a meaningful tribute to Swami Vivekananda, reinforcing the message of youth empowerment, national pride and active citizenship.
