Winds of change are blowing among the lawyers of bengal. BJP-backed lawyers have achieved a resounding victory in the State Bar Council elections. Three BJP-backed candidates won in the polls held on Monday; among them, Samir Pal and Ajay Choubey were elected from the Presidency Bar. Additionally, lawyer Arun Sarkar—who is close to the Congress—won the election while contesting with BJP support.
In the evening, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari held a press conference with the victorious candidates. He stated that lawyers holding diverse ideologies have decided to work in unison with the state government. The Bar Council is a vital constitutional platform for lawyers, and the emergence of a cooperative atmosphere within this institution is a positive development for the state's judicial system and administration.
The Chief Minister also launched a scathing attack on the opposition. He alleged that a section of the opposition camp is conspiring to destabilize the elected government by maintaining links with "anti-national forces." At the same time, he stated that the report from the commission constituted to examine the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is expected within the next two to three months. He added that once the report is received, the process of enacting the law by introducing a bill in the Assembly would commence. Furthermore, the Chief Minister mentioned plans to introduce a separate law to curb religious conversions.
