Asansol Division of Eastern Railway has carried out planned track renewal works across the division to strengthen railway infrastructure and enhance the safety of train operations. Track renewal is an important engineering activity to maintain proper track geometry, ensure safe train running and provide a smooth and comfortable journey for passengers while supporting reliable freight movement.
The work was executed in a phased and systematic manner with advance planning to ensure continuity of train services and minimum inconvenience to passengers. During the renewal process, old and worn-out rails and sleepers were replaced, ballast was properly packed and track geometry was maintained under the supervision of engineering officials. Modern track machines, including PQRS (Plasser Quick Relaying System), UNIMAT, DUOMAT, Dynamic Tamping Express and CMS (Track Stabilizing Machine), were deployed for track laying, tamping and stabilization to ensure precision, durability and improved riding quality. All safety precautions and standard engineering practices were followed during the execution of the work.
During the renewal process, 60 Kg, 90 UTS long welded rails were laid to improve track strength and durability, replacing older rails. Pre-Stressed Concrete (PSC) sleepers with elastic rail fastenings were provided for better load distribution, improved track stability and longer service life. Improved ballast cushion and mechanized packing strengthened track geometry and ensured smoother and safer train operations.
The financial year-wise track renewal carried out in the division is as follows:
2021β2022: 49.04 km of track renewed
2022β2023: 63.25 km of track renewed
2023β2024: 70.38 km of track renewed
2024β2025: 82.45 km of track renewed
2025β2026 (up to January): 83.73 km of track renewed
Track renewal increased from 49.04 km in 2021β2022 to 83.73 km in 2025β2026 (up to January), registering an increase of approximately 70.7 percent, indicating continuous focus on infrastructure improvement and safety.
During the financial years 2022β2025, a total of 265.12 km of track has been renewed in the division, improving track condition, operational safety and train performance.
Asansol Division continues to focus on infrastructure maintenance and safety to provide safe, reliable and efficient train services for passengers and freight operations.
