Mithun Chakraborty is now Bengal 's Cabinet Minister
Mithun Chakraborty is the Advisor to the State Information and Cultural Affairs Department, holding the rank of a Cabinet Minister.
The West Bengal government has appointed actor Mithun Chakraborty as an advisor to the state's Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, with the rank of a cabinet minister. The state's Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms issued a notification to this effect on Tuesday, 6th October 2026.
The notification states that the Governor has appointed Mithun as Advisor to the Government of West Bengal in the Information & Cultural Affairs Department. This appointment, carrying the rank of a Cabinet Minister, comes into effect immediately. He will hold this position until further orders.
A notification signed by Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Agarwal states that this appointment has been made in the public interest and with the approval of the concerned authorities. A copy of the notification has also been sent separately to Mithun Chakraborty to inform him of the appointment.
The notification has been sent to several key departments of the state administration, in addition to the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs. Consequently, Mithun's new role has already sparked interest within administrative circles. This appointment is effective from 6th October, 2026.
