A full-scale mock drill exercise was conducted by Asansol Division, Eastern Railway at Satellite Siding in Asansol Yard on 28.03.2026 jointly with NDRF 2nd Battalion as per Railway Board guidelines. The exercise was carried out under the leadership of Divisional Railway Manager, Asansol, Shri Sangrah Maurya.
As part of the drill, a derailment scenario involving Train No. 03631 (Jasidih–Asansol Summer Special) was created. Two coaches were kept in a derailed condition out of which one coach was capsized and the other was mounted over it, simulating a serious accident situation. After assessing the severity of the incident, information was relayed by Divisional Control to all concerned agencies including NDRF and Fire Brigade.
Enquiry booths and help desks were organized at the accident site and important stations to facilitate passenger assistance and information dissemination. Rescue and restoration at the mock drill site were carried out by Railway Accident Relief Medical Van (ARMV), Accident Relief Train (ART) and Railway Crane in coordination with the NDRF team. The entire exercise was conducted in a time-bound and coordinated manner demonstrating prompt response and operational readiness.
The primary objective of the drill was to assess emergency preparedness and evaluate adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while strengthening coordination among all responding agencies.
All departments of the Railway actively participated in the exercise as per laid down guidelines. The mock drill was successfully conducted under the overall coordination of the Safety Branch, Asansol Division and closely monitored by Divisional Railway Manager, Asansol, Shri Sangrah Maurya. The exercise facilitated evaluation of response mechanisms and coordination among departments and agencies in handling emergency situations.
