Workshop on “Indian Knowledge System and Modern Science” Organized at NIT Durgapur under Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan

The National Institute of Technology Durgapur organized a one-day workshop on “Indian Knowledge System and Modern Science” under the aegis of Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan.

The programme was graced by members of participating colleges under Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan affiliated with the Regional Coordinating Institute (RCI), NIT Durgapur. The occasion also witnessed the presence of students trained under the UBA-sponsored project “Enhancement of English Communication Skills in Bengali Medium Students of Banagram Village.” Several of these students, along with club members who had actively contributed to the project, attended the workshop and were felicitated by Shri K.E.N. Raghavan and Project Instructor Dr. Shri Krishan Rai.

The workshop commenced with the ceremonial Deep Prajwalan, setting a formal tone for the proceedings. This was followed by the felicitation of guests on the dais and an introductory address by Dr. Shri Krishan Rai, Regional Coordinator, RCI–NIT Durgapur, who outlined the objectives of the programme and its relevance within the framework of Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan.
In his welcome address, the Hon’ble Director, Prof. Arvind Choubey, highlighted the commitment of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan Cell of NIT Durgapur towards the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, emphasizing the role of academic institutions in fostering sustainable and inclusive rural development.

The central highlight of the programme was the lecture delivered by Shri K.E.N. Raghavan on “Indian Knowledge System and Modern Science,” where he explored the convergence of the traditional Indian knowledge paradigm with modern scientific approaches. His session extended into an engaging interaction with the participants, encouraging dialogue on practical and community-oriented solutions.

Following the lunch break, Shri Raghavan conducted a hands-on training session focusing on the preparation of biogas and compost manure. The session provided practical insights aimed at enabling participants to implement sustainable practices in the villages adopted by their respective institutions under Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan. The programme concluded with a valedictory session, marking the successful completion of the workshop.
