“Swachhata- Abhiyan” aiming ‘Mission Zero Scrap’ generates record breaking scrap sale revenue of Rs. 600 Crores for Eastern Railway

In a resounding testament to its commitment to efficiency and "Mission Zero Scrap," Eastern Railway has recorded a stellar performance in scrap disposal for the Financial Year 2025-26. Surpassing previous benchmarks, the zone has generated a staggering  Non Fare Revenue of ?600.11 Crore, marking a significant chapter in its asset management success story.

A Quantum Leap in Revenue Growth:-
Eastern Railway continues its upward trajectory, demonstrating exceptional year-on-year growth. The scrap sale revenue of ?600.11 Crore in FY 2025-26, reflects a robust increase as compared to the preceding years:

•    11.62% Growth in FY 2025-26 over FY 2024-25 (?537.65 Cr.) and 22.49% Surge compared to FY 2023-24 (?489.93 Cr.)

This consistent growth underscores a strategic focus on maximizing resource mobilization and maintaining a clean, clutter-free railway environment.

Item-Wise Disposal Highlights: Turning Waste into Wealth:-
The comprehensive disposal process saw thousands of metric tonnes of scrap and hundreds of redundant units being recycled back into the economy:
•    Condemned Rail and P-Way fittings: Eastern railway successfully disposed of more than 40,000 Metric Tonne of Rail and P-Way fittings. Furthermore, an impressive 4,00,000 PSC sleepers were also eliminated from the system.

•    Ferrous Scrap: In a massive recovery effort, approx. 65,000 MT of Ferrous scrap and 4,200 Million Tonnes (MT) of Non-Ferrous scrap, generated during maintenance, repairs and overhauling (MRO) activities were liquidated.

•    Rolling Stock Liquidation: ER phased out 410 coaches (EMU, ICF and DEMU) and 910 wagons replacing them with modern & technologically advanced versions. In addition to this, 18 Diesel Locomotives and 19 Electric Locomotives were also auctioned.

•    Civil Structures – releasing space for development: ER ran a special campaign to clear the decades old condemned structures, which were not only blocking usable space but also posed safety hazard.  A total of more than 2000 units of condemned civil structures were cleared, reclaiming valuable railway land for developmental works.

Commitment to Sustainability:-
One of the major highlights being 27.4% increase in recycling the scrap generated by Eastern Railway for use within Railway as Raw Material in Wheel plants (Direct Sale being Rs. 107 Crores in FY 25-26 compared to Rs. 84 Crores in FY 24-25).
 
"By effectively liquidating scrap, we are not just generating vital revenue but also reclaiming valuable space and contributing to a greener, more sustainable circular economy," stated Principal Chief Material Manager/ Eastern Railway, Shri  Sandeep Shukla. Eastern Railway remains dedicated to optimizing its inventory and setting new standards in administrative excellence.
