Mosquitoes now flying to heaven in Iceland

Mosquitoes - the tiny itching visitors have now been found in Iceland for the first time shockingly after the country experienced a record-breaking heat this spring.

Antarctica, Iceland, was incidentally recognised as the second mosquito- free country in the world. Iceland and Antarctica were only two mosquito-free heavens in the world prior to the discovery, partly due to their cold climate.

Insect enthusiast Bjorn Hjaltason encountered the mosquitoes over several nights last week while using wine-soaked ropes to observe moths, some government approved reports suggested today.

Mr Hjaltason found two female mosquitoes and one male, which were later confirmed to be Culiseta annulata, one of few species that can successfully survive in winter.

The mosquitoes were found in Kjós, a glacial valley to the South West of the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik.
