Coal India Limited Welfare Board reaffirms commitment to employee Well-being

Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) hosted the 54th Coal India Limited Welfare Board Meeting at Durgapur, underscoring its continued commitment to employee welfare, inclusive growth and a holistic approach to workforce development across the coal sector.
 
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Vinay Ranjan, Director (HR), Coal India Limited and attended by Shri Keshav Rao, Director (HR), MCL, Shri Harsh Nath Mishra, Director (HR), CCL, Shri Manish Kumar, Director (HR), NCL, Shri Murli Krishna Ramaiah, Director (HR), BCCL, Shri Biranchi Das, Director (HR), SECL, Shri Gunjan Kumar Sinha, Director (HR), ECL, Shri Hemant Sharad Pande, Director (HR), WCL, Shri Shankar Nagachari, Director (T/CRD), CMPDIL, Shri Gowthan Potru, IAS (SCCL) (represented by Shri Kesa Narayan Rao, DGM (P/W&CSR), SCCL). Union representatives - Shri Tikeshwar Singh Rathore (BMS), Shri Shankar Pd. Behera (HMS), Shri Ashok Yadav (AITUC), and Shri Ranjeet Mukharjee (CITU) also participated, reaffirming the collaborative nature of welfare initiatives within Coal India.
 
The forum served as a strategic platform to review welfare initiatives, evaluate ongoing projects, and chart the roadmap for enhancing the well-being of employees and their families.
The Board reviewed progress on key welfare programmes, including housing and township development, healthcare infrastructure, education facilities, sports promotion, and new welfare projects aimed at improving the quality of life in coalfield communities. Emphasis was laid on expanding social security coverage, strengthening healthcare & educational support and creating vibrant community ecosystems through sports and cultural engagement.
 
Later in the day, CIL Welfare Board members, along with other officials, visited Sindoor Park at Jhanjra Area of ECL, where they inspected and reviewed various welfare amenities. The delegation was warmly welcomed at Sindoor Park at the Jhanjra Area of ECL, marking the start of their visit to this shining example of ecological restoration and sustainable development. The park has transformed the mining area into a serene eco-space spanning 13.02 hectares, featuring Japanese gardens, water bodies, walkways, and play zones. The CIL Welfare Board Members witnessed firsthand how ECL’s commitment to responsible mining goes hand in hand with giving back to nature and society, with Sindoor Park exemplifying the harmony between sustainability and development.
 
The visit concluded with a special “Chai Pe Charcha” session between female employees of Jhanjra Area, ECL, and CIL Welfare Board Members at the Sindoor Park. This interaction provided a wonderful platform for open dialogue, sharing experiences, and discussing initiatives that empower women across ECL’s operations. Set against the serene backdrop of Sindoor Park, the session highlighted our commitment to employee welfare, women empowerment, inclusivity, and sustainable development. The officials also interacted with employees and assessed on-ground welfare facilities during which meaningful discussions were held regarding employee welfare, workplace improvement, and overall well-being.
 
In his address, Dr. Vinay Ranjan, Director (HR), Coal India Limited, highlighted the importance of continuous innovation in welfare planning to meet the evolving needs of the workforce. He reiterated that the welfare of employees remains central to Coal India’s growth philosophy. We believe that meaningful engagement and listening to voices from all corners of our workforce. He further added that welfare of employees is the key to encouraging growth, equality, and a thriving workplace.
