On the occasion of World Cancer Day 2026, the Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI), in association with , organised a press conference at the CNCI campus in Kolkata, showcasing the growing role of robotic-assisted surgery in advancing cancer care in India.

The event brought together leading oncologists, surgeons and technology experts to deliberate on how surgical robotics is contributing to improved precision, better clinical outcomes and enhanced quality of life for cancer patients. As one of the country’s premier cancer care institutions under the Union  Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, CNCI continues to focus on the adoption of advanced and patient-centric medical technologies.

Discussions during the press conference centred on the clinical impact of robotic-assisted surgeries, CNCI’s future roadmap in advanced cancer treatment and the role of indigenous robotic platforms in strengthening India’s healthcare ecosystem.

The speakers highlighted how technology-driven interventions can help bridge gaps in access to advanced cancer care, particularly beyond major metropolitan centres.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Jayanta Chakraborty, Director, CNCI, emphasised the importance of timely and precise treatment in cancer care. He noted that robotic-assisted surgery enables surgeons to operate with enhanced accuracy while reducing surgical stress for patients. He stated that the collaboration on World Cancer Day reflects CNCI’s continued commitment to evolving cancer care in a manner that is practical, meaningful and centred on patient well-being.

Sharing his perspective, Dr Sudhir Srivastava, Founder, Chairman and CEO, SS Innovations International Inc., highlighted the need to expand access to advanced surgical technologies. He underlined that SS Innovations is focused on developing affordable, Made-in-India robotic systems, enabling wider adoption of robotic surgery across hospitals and regions, thereby democratising access to cutting-edge cancer care.

The press conference was also addressed by senior leadership and clinicians from CNCI, including Dr Sankar Sengupta, Medical Superintendent, along with senior surgical oncologists Dr Sagar Sen, Dr Nanda, Dr Dipanwita Banerjee and Dr Sandip Mondal. They shared insights on clinical outcomes, patient benefits and CNCI’s leadership in integrating advanced surgical innovations into routine cancer care.

Experts from the SSII Mantra Robotic Platform also highlighted the contribution of indigenous robotic technology in transforming cancer surgery in India.

The event underscored the shared vision of CNCI and SS Innovations International to leverage innovation, accessibility and indigenous technology to strengthen cancer care delivery and improve patient outcomes across the country.
